Coming out with a new console every 1 to 2 years and buying into a 'contract' or 'subscription' to get a discount would ruin consoles. But that may be too late considering that they already did that with the Xbox 360 and hinted at it with the Xbox One.

Anyways i have a question for you Sean. I just recently purchased a Wii U and I was wondering if Skyward Sword really looks as terrible as everyone says it does on Wii U. I haven't played it yet and I no longer have a Wii since it was stolen in the mail.

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Digital Apocalypse Now

The set would include both DVD and Blu-ray copies, hence would be about 3-4 times more costly to produce, and double-hence the Kickstarter.

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Digital Apocalypse Now

http://www.recordstoreday.com/...

But they are still are being sold in department stores because there are still people who like to have physical copies or just don't know how to get the them online. record companies still see CD sales as profitable even tho' it has decline in the last decade and i believe physical games will still be profitable even if there is broadband connection in every home and everyone, even grandpa, knows how to download a game. well, at least in the next 10 years lol.

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Digital Apocalypse Now

I would support a Kickstarter!

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Xbox One

I just had to link it since i find it funny. There press release, pretty much showed me what there selling and they could have done better.Any ways "after finding out what it's restrictions will be" and exclusive it will have i am not sold on the console.

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Digital Apocalypse Now

It's been confirmed by sony no DRM for the PS4 ^_^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Digital Apocalypse Now

If you're doing the kickstarter, I'm all for it! He bet me $1000 that you will not be able to buy a physical game in 10 years. I highly doubt that but if i was too lose the bet i wouldn't be so mad. I would just give him the money that i didn't spend on those new download only systems. unless every where around the world has broadband connection there will always be physical media. Console makers would be insane to lose such a relatively large chunk of the market.

Re: Nokia Exclusive Man of Steel trailer

What makes this "Nokia exclusive" when, having nothing to do with Nokia, I can watch it on YouTube?

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Xbox One

Yes value for the most part does represent the experience and enjoyment of the game but some people do find it valuable to be able to loan, trade, and sell to friends to play other games when money is tight. In the near future it could be a deciding factor between Awesome Game A and Awesome Game B for me. I do agree with what you said about critics, even if a really good game has DRM it shouldn't prevent you from playing it. But it may happen, I mean critics still complain about games not having multiplayer so if they can find things to nitpick they will.

As for developers I was mostly was talking about how their games couldn't be enjoyed anymore once Xbox Live is shut down. Some devs do care more about creating a truly enjoyable experience that many can play instead of cold hard cash but sadly most of them are Indy developers (like on Xbox Live) nowadays. Atlus and Xseed are also good examples, they bring niche games that fans want despite the fact they could potentially lose them money. But there are developers that hate DRM, I remember reading an article written by a producer of Super Meat Boy to EA about SimCity. Don't quote me on this but I thought I'd heard that developers wouldn't be making direct money off used game fees anyways, the publishers would get it.

I don't think we're making too big a deal of this. I believe video games are art, and with all aspects of art- one of the most important things to do is preserve it for the future generations. I loved listening to my dad's old vinyls and watching old movies growing up. And just like old movies and music, I've pretty much raised my little brother on Super Metroid and The Legend of Zelda and I think newer gamers should have that chance too with next gen. Sure online experiences can't easily be preserved but we should try and keep what we can. As gamers it's our responsibility to preserve this art form. Try not to think of it as you reliving the experience but those further down the road.

Thanks for the comment, it's always great to hear someone else's perspective!

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Xbox One

I think you're confusing resale value with overall value. And a developer could give a flying fuck about how well the game does on the secondary market.

A critic on the other hand should be reviewing the experience presented and the artistic merits of the game. I think the ability to flip a game for another one a week after release would be an element a critic would bring up in the review of a BAD game rather than a GOOD one. (IE, probably not an issue on Bioshock Infinite, but a factor in Colonial Marines to get rid of it as soon as possible)

I still think people are making way, way, way too much of this.

I like to preserve games, but the fact of the matter is that so many online experiences are unable to be duplicated. They're here and then they're gone. It is as futile as trying to preserve a taste or smell. You'll have to live with the memory.

Re: Famicom Dojo Podcast: Xbox One

I don't think the argument about not being able to see a band in concert the same way you saw it years ago equates to the issue of not being able to play games the same way years ago. Band members die or leave the group and those are the reasons why you can't experience it the same way, video games and other digital media aren't affected the same way.

Anyways after hearing the recent announcement that the PS4 won't require an internet connection and that it's up to the developers to implement DRM, I think it's going to make Microsoft either rethink their strategies or force them to drop out of the race. But PS4 will still have DRM right? Maybe at first but it won't last. Even though some companies may choose to use DRM, many won't (to promote their game sales) and that causes the PS4 to be more of a competitive open market and forces other companies not to use it. Xbox One has a more, shall we say 'communistic grip', where there's no competition and therefore the market never gets better for the consumer. Believe it or not, a lot of devs are also against the Xbox One and its DRM and I can't blame them! If I slaved years into making a game I'd want as many people to enjoy it as possible, DRM doesn't allow this.

What do you guys think? Any oversights? Also do you think it's alright for reviewers to lower the score of a game due to DRM? It literally decreases the games value.

Re: Plants vs Zombies 2: Its About Time trailer

Well...I *was* excited, especially after seeing the trailer. I don't think it's fair to look at those numbers and declare it filled a much-wanted sporting niche, especially since those mini-games were so anemic. FUN, but they did not convince me to get Mario Golf, or a Tiger Woods game, or any of the EA Sports games that were available for the system. I think the overall low attach rate for the system bears that out as well: people just don't buy non-Nintendo games for Nintendo's latest consoles.
